The dog ate my homework. :-)  I have to wait until tomorrow because we 
lost (gulp!) the disk containing my home directory.  My first attempts 
suggest that a good many of my changes are not needed >= 3.4.2.  I'll 
try to issue a complete report + 24 hours.
