I am going through your tarball as we speak.

Qn:

1.    Does gcc 3.4 and above still require the static cast hack? In  
order of preference, I would rather: (1) keep the static cast, (2)  
change everything to a Motorola-style cast or (3) use macros to  
decide. So if the static cast hack isn't necessary, I'll do (1),  
otherwise I'll do (2).

2.    Does gcc 3.4 and above have a proper definition of __vector  
bool int etc. or __vector __bool int in <altivec.h> and other places?

Based on those two answers, I should be able to apply the tarball  
changes back to the mainline.
